Should We Care About How Gaddafi Died?

It seems pretty clear that Gaddafi was executed by the rebels that found him. Should we care?

Some are saying that the new government is ‘stained’ because of how he died. It is clear that Gaddafi was captured alive and it is appearing more and more that he was executed by the rebels via a gunshot wound to the head. Keep in mind this was a brutal dictator that ruled Libya with an iron fist. He had long been an enemy to the U.S. and was responsible for the terrorists downing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie Scotland, which killed 270 people. This is only a small portion of the story about how bad Gaddafi really was. So why are people decrying the execution of him?

I think a lot of it is saving face. It is hard to argue that the world is worse off because Gaddafi is now dead. But in order to save face, people are having to come out against the execution because they would have rather have had Gaddafi ‘face justice’. If you ask me, he did ‘face justice’ when he was executed by his own people that he ruled over so cruelly.

Should we care how this all went down? On the surface no. But when you look at the way the whole middle east region is rapidly changing we should at least take notice. It is really hard to predict what will happen in the coming years as the middle east is taken over by the people. Being a largely Islamic region, Islamic law will undoubtedly play a major role in their nations laws. With the people’s backing, and a modern twist this may not be a bad thing. It doesn’t take much though to change a well intended policy of Islamic law into a bad policy that strips the rights of its citizens as previous regimes have done.

Only time will tell where this takes us. In the meantime, we should celebrate with the rebels that took out Gaddafi. He was an evil man and an enemy of the United States. The world is a better place without him.

About The Political Zealot

The Political Zealot is designed to bring independent analysis of politics from a Millennial's point of view. Being a Millennial, I am much more inclined to work together and come to a compromise than most of the Baby Boomers that are in Congress today. Because of this, The Political Zealot will strive to find ways to bridge the gaps of both sides of the political aisle and bring solutions to the table.
