Did The Obama Spending Binge Really Happen?

Government spending

Last night I came across an article that perked my interest. The author did some analysis on government spending levels over the last 60 years and came to the conclusion that the rise in government spending under President Obama has actually been quite low compared to other Presidents. Politifact looked into the claim and came to the conclusion that the analysis was “mostly true” but pointed out that Republicans do deserve credit for the reduction in spending levels. Already, conservative bloggers and groups are coming out with their own interpretation claiming that the analysis is patently false.

I plan on looking into this analysis myself and report back next week on my findings. I found the analysis angle interesting because I had both never heard that angle before, nor had considered it as it has seemed obvious that Obama has increased federal spending by tremendous amounts. In the meantime take a look at the analysis (and responses) yourself and let me know what you think!

About The Political Zealot

The Political Zealot is designed to bring independent analysis of politics from a Millennial's point of view. Being a Millennial, I am much more inclined to work together and come to a compromise than most of the Baby Boomers that are in Congress today. Because of this, The Political Zealot will strive to find ways to bridge the gaps of both sides of the political aisle and bring solutions to the table.
