The Political Zealot Returns for 2013!

After a long break over the new year, the Political Zealot is back for 2013!

What a year we had last year! The Political Zealot has covered politics from an independent millennial’s point of view for over a year and a half now and boy did we get a lot of things right last year. I called the race for President Obama way back in November of 2011 when Republicans started fighting Obama on the payroll tax cut. Sure enough, Republicans lost and lost hard in November. While many say it was a ‘status quo’ election, the fact is Republicans lost seats in both the Senate and the House plus the presidency when they expected to take the Senate and expand their lead in the House. I wouldn’t call that status quo.

Already a ton has happened since we went on an extended break. We had the fiscal cliff, where Washington was able to make everyone right in their predictions. What do I mean? We both went over the cliff and didn’t because we passed a bill but after the deadline while the markets were closed. We raised taxes on the upper income brackets and kicked the can on spending down the road. Pretty much any prediction you made prior to the cliff turned out correct.

Another big story, which I plan to cover extensively, is the debate over gun control. Gun control? But that wasn’t even discussed in the campaign. True it wasn’t, but now that Obama has won reelection he is going to do what many have feared and push for expansive gun control measures due to the most recent school shooting in Newtown, CT.

There is so much to cover in 2013 and the Political Zealot will be right there in the thick of things. I will also be back on PolicyMic this year moving forward and continue being a top contributor there. Remember PolicyMic? I wrote the book on it! Go buy it and check out what you’ve been missing!

About The Political Zealot

The Political Zealot is designed to bring independent analysis of politics from a Millennial's point of view. Being a Millennial, I am much more inclined to work together and come to a compromise than most of the Baby Boomers that are in Congress today. Because of this, The Political Zealot will strive to find ways to bridge the gaps of both sides of the political aisle and bring solutions to the table.
